Florida’s afternoon storms and hurricane season
From May through October, expect a short, intense thunderstorm most afternoons, usually between 2pm and 6pm — visibility can drop fast and standing water builds up quickly on I-4, I-95 and the Turnpike, so it’s worth timing longer drives for the morning. Hurricane season runs June through November; if a named storm is forecast toward Florida, mandatory evacuation orders override any campground reservation, so it’s worth checking your rental agreement’s cancellation and rescheduling terms before you book if you’re travelling in that window, and keeping an eye on NOAA forecasts as your trip approaches.

Orlando’s theme parks run year-round, but hurricane season is June through November and summer brings daily afternoon thunderstorms. Winter and spring are the most comfortable and reliable seasons for an RV trip.

How do tolls work for an RV in Orlando?
Central Florida's toll roads, including Florida's Turnpike, are all-electronic. You pay with a SunPass transponder or by Toll-By-Plate, where the registered owner is billed by plate. Can I camp in Ocala National Forest from Orlando?
Yes. Ocala National Forest is roughly 1 to 1.5 hours north of Orlando and has several campgrounds, including Salt Springs, Juniper Springs and Alexander Springs. Salt Springs is the largest and the only one with full hookups, with 106 sites that have water, sewer and electric, plus a dump station. Sites are booked through Recreation.gov. Check length limits and hookups for each campground with the Forest Service.
