Parking your RV in Los Angeles
LA defines an “oversize vehicle” as anything longer than 22 feet or taller than 84 inches, and the city bans parking one on the street between 2am and 6am in signed restricted zones — an overnight permit is available but limited to a few consecutive days, and oversized vehicles can’t park within 50 feet of an intersection at any hour. A city-wide 72-hour rule also applies to any vehicle left on a public street, regardless of other signage. Unincorporated LA County and cities like Santa Monica set their own, often stricter, size thresholds and permit requirements, so it’s worth checking local rules rather than assuming LA’s apply everywhere in the metro area. Given all this, a campground or RV park is the simpler option for overnight stays.
When to travel
LA itself is mild year-round, but Joshua Tree and Palm Springs are far more comfortable in spring and fall than in summer, when desert temperatures regularly pass 100°F. Book coastal and desert park campsites well ahead for spring break and summer weekends.

Is there an RV park on the beach in Los Angeles?
Yes. Dockweiler RV Park, run by LA County at 12001 Vista del Mar in Playa del Rey, sits beside the beach with full hookups and an RV size limit of 40 feet. Can I take an RV from Los Angeles to Joshua Tree?
Yes, it is about 130 miles east of LA. Bear in mind that no campground in the park has hookups, and White Tank and Hidden Valley have a 25-foot combined length limit, with Belle taking up to 35 feet.
