Campervans and motorhomes for hire near Preston
The choice runs from 2-berth camper vans — a converted van that sleeps two and drives much like a large car — to 6-berth motorhomes with a full kitchen and bathroom. A berth is a sleeping space, so a 4-berth sleeps four.
The Forest of Bowland’s quieter lanes suit a 2 or 4-berth better; the main routes to the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales are fine for larger motorhomes. See camper van hire and motorhome hire.
Price follows the same pattern wherever you hire: the smallest camper van is consistently the lowest-cost option, a 6-berth motorhome the most expensive, and the price per night usually drops the longer you book for. Booking in the school holidays, especially August, costs noticeably more than spring or autumn. Enter your dates on the search page for a real price near Preston rather than a generic average — see motorhome hire prices for more on what moves it.

How much does it cost to hire a campervan in Preston?
It depends mainly on the vehicle size, the season and how long you hire for. A small camper van is consistently the lowest-cost option and a large motorhome the most expensive; booking in the school holidays, especially August, costs noticeably more than spring or autumn; and the price per night usually drops the longer you book for. Can I park a motorhome in Blackpool on a day out from Preston?
Yes, in designated car parks only. Blackpool Council allows motorhomes at Banks Street, Foxhall Village, Gynn Square, Lytham Road, Seasiders and South car parks, and bars them from on-street pay and display bays and from Princes Way. The council lists a year-round tariff of £12.50 per 24 hours. Overnight sleeping is allowed, but not seating, washing lines or awnings outside the vehicle. South car park has height barriers. Check the council’s motorhome page for current bays.
Can I sleep in a motorhome in a Lake District lay-by?
Not legally outside a campsite, according to the Lake District National Park Authority. It says the only legal places to park overnight are formal camp sites, nobody has a right to pitch up without landowner permission, and traditional wild camping areas do not apply to campervans. Lay-bys are part of the highway, so the same rules apply as for parking on the road, and you cannot park overnight on common land, access land or public rights of way. See the park authority’s campervan page and our Lake District guide.
Can I stay overnight in a Yorkshire Dales National Park car park?
No. The Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority prohibits overnight occupation of vehicles in all of its car parks, and camping and overnight occupation of motorhomes is also prohibited. Its camping page adds that fly camping and overnight occupation of vehicles in its car parks is not allowed at any time, and that it cannot allow camping on private land. Choose a campsite for each night, and read the Authority’s car park guidance before you go. Our Yorkshire Dales page has more.
