Campervans and motorhomes for hire near Derby

The choice runs from 2-berth camper vans — a converted van that sleeps two and drives much like a large car — to 6-berth motorhomes with a full kitchen and bathroom. A berth is a sleeping space, so a 4-berth sleeps four. For the Peak District’s narrower roads, a 2 or 4-berth is the easier choice. See camper van hire and motorhome hire.

Price follows the same pattern wherever you hire: the smallest camper van is consistently the lowest-cost option, a 6-berth motorhome the most expensive, and the price per night usually drops the longer you book for. Booking in the school holidays, especially August, costs noticeably more than spring or autumn. Campervan and motorhome hire in Derby — FAQs

How much does it cost to hire a campervan in Derby?

It depends mainly on the vehicle size, the season and how long you hire for. A small camper van is consistently the lowest-cost option and a large motorhome the most expensive; booking in the school holidays, especially August, costs noticeably more than spring or autumn; and the price per night usually drops the longer you book for. Enter your dates in the search above to see live prices from vehicles near Derby. See motorhome hire prices for more on what moves the price.

Where can I pick up a campervan near Derby?

Owners list vehicles across Derby and the surrounding Derbyshire towns. A 20–30 mile radius in the search shows the full choice.

Can I stay overnight in a Peak District National Park car park?

No. The Peak District National Park Authority says overnight parking or camping is prohibited at all of its car parks and may lead to patrols and enforcement. It also says none of its car parks have height restriction barriers, though some are not suitable for larger vehicles, and a vehicle that does not fit one bay must pay for every bay it takes up. Book a campsite for each night instead, and see the Authority’s parking page for details.

What are the red routes near Mam Tor and Castleton?

Derbyshire's first red routes use double red lines on both sides of the road, and no vehicle may stop at any time, including on the verge or pavement behind the lines. They cover Old Mam Tor Road, the road to Blue John Cavern, the road to Rushup Edge Farm and the road to Sparrowpit. The fine is £70, reduced to £35 if paid within 14 days. The 55 bays at the upper end of Old Mam Tor Road stay free to use, as the county council explains. See also the Peak District page.

Does Sheffield's Clean Air Zone charge campervans on a Peak District trip?

It can. Sheffield City Council says cars are not charged, but its Class C zone, inside the inner ring road and city centre, does charge non-compliant campervans, motorhomes and vans. The charge is £10 a day for smaller vehicles and £50 for lorries and buses, and larger motorhomes can apply for a discounted £10 rate. Many campervans are recorded by the DVLA as light goods vehicles, though the council may treat a small campervan as non-chargeable if the keeper applies with evidence. Ask the owner for the registration and check it before you drive in.
