Campervans and motorhomes for hire near Cambridge

The choice runs from 2-berth camper vans — a converted van that sleeps two and drives much like a large car — to 6-berth motorhomes with a full kitchen and bathroom. A berth is a sleeping space, so a 4-berth sleeps four.

The roads across East Anglia are flat and wide, so this is an easy region for a first-time larger motorhome as well as a compact camper van. See camper van hire and motorhome hire.

Price follows the same pattern wherever you hire: the smallest camper van is consistently the lowest-cost option, a 6-berth motorhome the most expensive, and the price per night usually drops the longer you book for. Booking in the school holidays, especially August, costs noticeably more than spring or autumn. Enter your dates on the search page for a real price near Cambridge rather than a generic average — see motorhome hire prices for more on what moves it.

It depends mainly on the vehicle size, the season and how long you hire for. A small camper van is consistently the lowest-cost option and a large motorhome the most expensive; booking in the school holidays, especially August, costs noticeably more than spring or autumn; and the price per night usually drops the longer you book for. Where can I pick up a campervan near Cambridge?

Owners list vehicles across Cambridge and into the wider Cambridgeshire and East Anglia region. A 20–35 mile radius in the search shows the full choice.

Will a campervan fit in Cambridge city-centre car parks?

Check the height first. Cambridge City Council gives a height limit of 1.98 metres (6 feet 6 inches) at the Grand Arcade and Lammas Land car parks, and 2.1 metres (7 feet) at Queen Anne Terrace, where coaches are not allowed and are directed to the Madingley Road Park and Ride. Compare the height shown on your listing with these limits before you plan to park in the centre. The council’s Grand Arcade page shows the limit and charges.

Can I sleep in a motorhome in a car park on the Suffolk coast?

Only in designated bays. East Suffolk Council permits overnight parking in its car parks, but sleeping, camping or cooking in a vehicle is prohibited unless it is a motorhome in a designated motorhome bay with the motorhome tariff paid by cashless app. Designated bays include Southwold Pier, Belvedere Road in Lowestoft and Manor Terrace in Felixstowe. Vehicles over 5.5 metres that do not fit wholly in a marked bay are not permitted unless designated bays are provided, though the council lists some car parks that take motorhomes up to 8 metres. The council’s tariff page lists the sites and the current charge.

Is there a campsite near Cambridge that takes motorhomes all year?

Yes. The Caravan and Motorhome Club's Cambridge Cherry Hinton site is open all year, welcomes non-members and has 56 pitches, 48 of them hardstanding, with a maximum outfit length of 8 metres. The Club warns against relying on sat nav because other routes use unsuitable roads and Cherry Hinton High Street is not suitable. The Camping and Caravanning Club site at Great Shelford is seasonal, listed as 27 March to 26 October 2026 and reopening on 22 March 2027.
