Long Term RV Rental

On Campervanhire.com you can compare RVs listed by private owners and local hire businesses, then book online through our partner Outdoorsy. Search RV rentals near you, or read on to work out which type suits your trip.
Types of RV
RVs fall into two groups: motorised RVs, which you drive, and towable RVs, which you pull behind another vehicle.
Motorised RVs
- Class A motorhomes are the largest RVs, built on a bus or truck chassis, with the most living space and often slide-outs. They suit families and long trips, but take the most care to drive and park.
- Class B RVs are camper vans built inside a large van, such as a Mercedes Sprinter. They’re the easiest RV to drive and park, and best for couples.
- Class C motorhomes sit in between: a van or truck cab with a living area built behind it, and usually a bed over the cab. They’re the most common rental for families.

Towable RVs
- Travel trailers hitch to the back of a car, SUV or truck and come in a wide range of sizes.
- Fifth wheels are large trailers that attach to a hitch in the bed of a pickup truck, which makes them more stable to tow.
- Pop-up campers fold down for towing and open up at camp, so they’re light enough for many family cars.
- Teardrop trailers are small, light trailers with a bed inside and a kitchen under a rear hatch.
- Truck campers sit in the bed of a pickup truck, so there’s no trailer to tow.

How RV rental works on Campervanhire.com
Campervanhire.com isn’t an RV company with its own fleet. The RVs you see are listed by their owners, both private owners and local rental businesses, through Outdoorsy.
- Search by location and dates to see what’s available near you, with photos, prices and reviews.
- Compare the details on each listing: sleeping spaces, mileage allowance, generator use, pet policy and what’s included.
- Book online. Some RVs can be booked instantly; others need the owner to accept your request first.
- Collect and go. The owner shows you round the RV before you set off.
Bookings include insurance, and 24/7 roadside assistance can be added. Read our Outdoorsy review for more on how it works, or see renting an RV from its owner.
Do you need a special licence to drive an RV?
In the US, a standard driver’s license covers most rental RVs. A special license is usually only needed for very heavy vehicles, generally over 26,000 lbs. In the UK, a standard car licence covers motorhomes up to 3,500kg, which includes most campervans and smaller motorhomes. See do I need a special licence to drive a campervan? for the UK rules in full.
How much does it cost to rent an RV?
The price depends mainly on the size of the RV, the season and how long you rent for. Small camper vans and towables are the cheapest, and large Class A motorhomes the most expensive. Add fuel, campground fees and any mileage or generator charges. Our guide to how much it costs to rent an RV breaks it all down. RV FAQs
What does RV stand for?
RV stands for recreational vehicle. It covers motorhomes, camper vans and towable trailers that you can sleep in.
What’s the easiest RV to drive?
A Class B camper van. It drives much like a large car and fits in most parking spaces. A small Class C is the next easiest.
Can you live in an RV full time?
Yes, many people do. If you’re thinking about it, renting for a month first is a good way to find out whether the size and layout work for you. Check campground rules on long stays before you commit.
Where can you stay overnight in an RV?
Most RV travellers use campgrounds and RV parks with hookups for power and water. See our guides to RV campgrounds and RV parks.
Should I rent before I buy an RV?
It’s a good idea. Renting the type of RV you’re considering shows you how it drives and whether the layout suits you before you spend money. Our guide to RV dealers covers what to check when you do buy.
Own an RV?
If your RV spends more time parked than on the road, you can rent it out when you’re not using it. Listing is free, you set your own prices and dates, and you always choose who rents it. See how much you could earn.
