Gateway Campers is based in Manchester – the ideal location to start your camper van adventure, and gateway to the delights of Northern Britain! Manchester can be easily reached by road, rail and air and once you are here and have collected your camper some of the country’s most beautiful scenery and interesting sights are within reach.

Do you fancy tackling one of the famous mountain passes in your camper, or spending the night by the side of a shimmering lake? If so, the Lake District is only an hour and a half away. Perhaps you want to sample some of the best natural mountain biking trails in the country in the Peak District (believe us, we know!) which is only 45 minutes away.

Or you might want to explore the lush forests, high peaks and castles of Snowdonia National Park (about 2 hours away). A Gateway Camper will allow you the freedom to explore in comfort and style, turning some heads in the process. We currently have one newly converted T5 van for hire which provides all you need for your camping holiday. It is also easier to drive and park than a traditional motorhome (and much cooler) and more practical than a traditional VW camper (although admittedly, we are biased on both counts).

It has lowered suspension for better handling, a tow bar and privacy glass so you can see what is going on outside but others can’t see in! You can expect around 40mpg as well when you are out on the road.

The van seats and sleeps 4 adults.There are 2 captain style swivel seats in the front cabin, 2 seats in the back which pull out into a rock and roll bed. The roof pops up to allow you to stand when the van is stationary and also to provide additional sleeping for 2.

The van has a WACO fridge/freezer (for ice cold drinks!), SMEV sink and gas hob with 2 rings.
The van comes fully equipped with all you need for cooking and eating and there is plenty storage too.

I for one am itching to get out there, I love the UK. I have seen a lot of it, but there’s so much more I want to visit. Last year we explored Scotland, Loch Lomond, Oban and Glen Coe areas – Stunning!

We hired Daisy from Classic Camper Hire and spent the week enjoying a slower pace of life. We picked up our 2010 Danbury conversion from Selkirk in the Scottish Borders and after a quick run through of Daisy’s kit we were on our way. VW Campervans get such attention on the roads its unbelievable the amount of waves and beeps we received on our travels right from the word go.

Making a bee line for the hills we were up passed Glasgow in no time and ready for our first night in Daisy. We found a prime spot on the shores of Loch Lomond at the Forestry Commissions campsite Cashel. The following day we kayaked on Loch Lomond and even explored one of the islands, amazing fun.

Heading up the West coast we took advantage of some of the great campsites and used the campers electric hook up to charge those all important ipods!

Oban is a lively fishing town and we stopped here and discovered the Oban Games would be on in the next couple of days. We had to be there for that! We decided to continue North and come back later in the week to see the Games.

Glen Coe proved to be all I expected and more, such beautiful landscapes around every bend in the road. Daisy took all of this in her stride and when we’d had enough of driving we would pull over and make an all important cuppa to enjoy the view.

The kids loved the wildlife in this area, we spotted seals, birds of prey, deer and the not so wild highland cattle. I could have stayed there so much longer but we headed back south to be in time for the Argyll Highland Games. Such a fabulous occasion, steeped in history and local pride. We followed the piper’s procession to the Games park and enjoyed a day of dance, music, sport and tradition – wonderful!

It was so nice to be away from normal city life and enjoy the outdoors.  Just being in the van in the evening playing cards with the kids was so enjoyable. It seems such a cliché to say ‘spending quality time together’ but it’s hard to describe it as anything else.

We laughed so much that holiday, and had the odd tear when my youngest did not see the fun in climbing a hill in a down pour! I heartily recommend you give campervan holidays a go, and you never know, you may get the camper bug and end up owning one yourself!

Have a Great Escape in our Classic VW Camper!
Everyone will smile at you in our 1970’s VW Camper. Mr. Blue Sky is ready for you to hire for a day, a weekend or longer. Go camping and not worry about the rain! Move on every day without spending ages pitching a tent! You carry everything that you need in a camper.

We have had some great adventures in our camper and now we hope that you will too.

What is in the bus?
Our camper can sleep two adults and up to three children, with the children sleeping in the roof. There is a four-burner hob with a grill underneath for toast. We also supply a cool box. There are also plenty of items to cook with and to eat off, although you can of course just go to the pub.

The camper has electric hook up which means that everything can still be powered at a campsite. Should you travel further afield then there is also a leisure battery, which can power electrical items without running the engine.

For a small additional charge you can hire our drive-away awning, which you can use to sleep in, put stuff in or just mark out your pitch whilst you go exploring.

Up front there is seating for three (all with seatbelts of course) and a stereo, which you can connect your iPod to for great music either when you are on the move or at a site. In the back is further seating for two, and this seat converts to a bed when you stop for the night.

What Else?
All that you need to bring is a sleeping bag, toiletries and some clothes.

You can explore the beautiful South of England, at your own pace, and whatever way you choose. Our camper does not come with any mileage restrictions, but if you only want to do a few miles then that’s fine too. Just book with us and look forward to a fantastic journey.
